Main Task: Case Study Of A Publishing House

Conde Nast Digital is a US publication company, producing many consumer magazines. These magazines are of great variety, they include Vogue, Glamour, GQ, GQ Style, Conde Nast Traveller, Easy Living, Tatler, House & Garden, Brides, World of Interiors, Vanity Fair, Conde Nast Johansens, Wired and Love. In regards to target audiences, Conde Nast provides many magazines for a variety of different types of people, addressing a lot of different subjects. The magazines are all targeted at adults, mostly 18 and over. They have gender specific magazines, for example Vogue and Glamour are targeted at the female markets, but GQ and GQ style are very much targeted at men. Most magazines in their range are targeted at females, this maybe because women are seen to have more time for reading magazines, as they traditionally stay at home while their husbands go to work. The magazines targeted at men mostly have to do with work matters rather than fashion and celebrity news (excluding GQ). The company would target a different audience for every magazine it makes as they would like hit every type of audience they can. Magazines like Vogue, Glamour, Tatler and Vanity Fair are more general to the female market, these magazines would appeal to most adult females, in England and America (the magazines are edited to suit and are specific to either country). GQ and GQ Style are aimed at a general working male market; the men who read these magazines will be ideally quite financially comfortable. Easy living would be aimed at the older woman, possibly 40’s upwards. House & Garden will probably be aimed at the older person; a homemaker or people in retirement; these people will have time to care for the home furnishings and looking after the garden, equally they could be aimed at people who are interior and exterior designers, although for this sort of job the magazine most suited would be World of Interiors. Brides would be for women who are preparing for marriage. Conde Nast Traveller and Conde Nast Johansens would be for people who travel or looking for places to travel to, and where to stay. Wired would be aimed at primarily males, most likely these men would be working. Love would be aimed at young women who are interested in fashion, or anyone who is in the fashion business.

Main Task: Profiling Your Audience

Lilia is a 19 year old with an absolute passion for Indie music and music in general. Working in a record shop, Lilia’s whole life is revolved around music, she loves nothing more than educating customers on up and coming indie bands and solo artists and also the classic indie heros. Her dress sense, Hobbies, Attitudes, Friends are all influenced by her favourite type of music. Her favourite bands include: Blur, Hole & Elastica. Lilia also enjoys up and coming artist Azealia Banks and collective rap group; Odd Future. When Lilia is not working in the shop she is going to gigs alongside her boyfriend and his indie band mates. Lilia regularly attends festivals in the summer; she is an annual attendee of both festivals; Reading and Hop Farm. Lilia finds out about up and coming artists/bands via social networking sites, she is always keen to introduce her friends to the new music she regularly discovers, she has a very open mind to different takes on the music. She is a part of the indie social scene that lives within East London's Shoreditch; Lilia’s high street flat becomes a central hangout for her and her friends.

The top results for the question 'What do you look for most when you read a music magazine?' was mostly Gig News/Reviews with 4 votes and Up and Coming Bands with 2 votes.

The top results for the question 'What price would you pay for a magazine?' was an almost unanimous vote for £2.50.

The top results for the question 'How often would you buy a magazine' was again an almost unanimous vote for monthly. One person suggested every two weeks, i decided not to put that as an option as most big music magazines are released every week or monthly- in order for my magazine to compete with them i would have to follow the way they bring out their magazines.

The top results for the question 'Which name do you prefer?' was the name Generation.

The top results for the question 'What colour themes do you prefer?' was both Blue, white and black & also Purple, white and black. As these are the top results i am going to choose the colour theme to be blue, white and black.
